  • Any word on the Aussy install?

Just curious. PS: I'll take that belt if you still have it. Mine still seems to be stretching.

Let me know when you are around and I will bring it up and we can test fit it.

He has received the kit but I don't think the install is under way yet.

      It has begun!!!!!

My car is a 1993 NA6, has 136k KM on the clock. Current performance mods include X-force 4-2-1 headers and magnaflow 2.25 cat back exhaust.

There are a few things running up to the final install of the supercharger that i will need to do though. But the entire process is underway anyway...

Here is a pic of how the charger was shipped by Tom

Yesterday I installed a new 40mm aluminum radiator with silicone hoses, flushed out the system with a radiator flush treatment on the old stock cooler just prior to the install.

Out with the Old in with the New

      Hoses

Old one, heaps of damage to the fins down low on the cooler

      Installed

Here are some pics of the trial install of the charger that i just did to see if anything needs to be moved.
      Side

      Front

      Front close up

      Back close up

As you can see i will be relocating the windshield washer reservoir, and seeing what needs to be done about getting the power steering fluid thingie (technical i know) moved

      My plans for the install:

I have already got the car running with a Megasquirt PNP, this has been modded by diyautotune to run with a variable TPS. At the moment my car is just using their base tune that ships with the ECU. I have yet to install the IAT sensor so am still using the AFM.

I have got hold of an intake manifold and throttle body off of an NB6, this has a variable TPS that i will be using once i get the plugs for it and the NB IAC from a local MX5 specialist. The mainfold should bolt straight up to the engine, not to sure how the wiring up of the NB sensors will work, but i will probably leave that bit to a pro.

I have off of eBay an A/A intercooler

gotta get hold of some piping and have some mates that can assist with
getting it all hooked up. And finally larger 370cc injectors.

      Then getting it tuned nicely.

I thinks thats all for now.

Elphaba, at this stage yes unfortunately you are all alone. I have some update though.

In December I took the car to get my NB intake manifold and Throttlebody installed, this included getting the sensors wired up and the IAT sensor installed and running on the megasquirt. Whilst all this was happening I also got the tuner to put in the 370cc injectors and the fuel rail that came with the FFS kit. The pod filter was also chucked on since I ditched the AFM.

There was a quick hour or so tune on the dyno so it was driveable (everything fired up first time and was running ok, but a few minor issues needed to be sorted). and managed a 89rwhp.

This was uncorrected for atmosphere (was tuned in Toowoomba a town inland about 100kms or so and around 600metres above sea level). The guys at the shop reckoned that it would most likely be a bit more than that as they reckon their dyno is a bit more conservative than most, either way its going back to that same dyno to get installed and tuned so the results will be consistent and that is really all that matters at the end of the day.

Now in regards to the intercooling, I did have an a/a ready to go but after a bit of chat with the tuner that day I am going to get a WAIC system, either PWR or Plazmaman. These tuners have put a few a/a systems on supercharged cars and have had the owners come back and get it removed due to the whole throttled volume thing causing dramas in the daily running of the car. This has now lead to the issue of doing a coolant reroute to get some space for the W/A heat exchanger to fit across the front of the engine, ggrrrrr!!!!

Of course over the Xmas and new year I haven't exactly been saving too many of my pennies so its kinda pushed back my install date.

In the next two weeks I will be chatting to the tuner and getting this reroute (currently checking my options). Then the WAIC (once I know what size I can get) and then time for some boost

Also have insurance and registration due this month $$$

It will be happening though in the next 4-6 weeks though as in that time I will have access to another car so can leave my car at the tuners (2 hr drive away) for like a week and let them get it sorted.

Funny though.... im now wondering how long till I email Tom and ask for a larger pulley

I was talking to Tom about installing a SC on my 92. I was considering doing a 1.8 upgrade first, mostly because I was not aware the M62 was available for the 1.6.

Though I am not yet convinced, I would like to see the numbers for this kit to understand what is possible with it, What to expect.

              Thanks

I seen the stock dyno, but did not see the blown one.

So @ 80 WHP improvement? I'm good with that!

And i assume as our previous discussion that we can still make further improvements with head work and so on...

                        Hi Skullduggery

My car is going up to the tuners this weekend and Im picking it up next weekend on the 21st Feb. Its going to be running with the 'stock' pulleys that Tom supplies which I think is supposed to deliver around 10psi.

I have a Water to Air intercooler also being setup on the car, as well as an upgrade clutch kit being installed. Only stuff up so far is I've ordered a Coolant reroute from BEGi (so I can fit in the WA setup in) and they never shipped me a block off plate for the front of the engine (which is apparantly now being sent to me, good thing I live on the otherside of the planet and it's gonna be a bit late). I hope this doesn't screw around too much with the intercooler install.

Anyway Expect dyno charts in just over a week.

                        Gregg

Yes please keep me posted.... Interested in if the near doubling of the stock WHP is to be expected.

Headwork is always conducive to more power if done right. More flow, less boost is words to make power by. More power can also be made with an A/A IC and bigger pulleys. If you have the crank pulley with the V-Belt for the alternator and 4 rib for the PS and AC, I only have the 105/65 80WHP combination. If you have the crank pulley with the 4 rib for both, I have 105 through 130 in 5mm steps as it uses my standard pulleys that I stock.

I only sell the 80WHP kit. If you want to go above that, you are in un-charted waters. You will 'probably' need bigger injectors and an A/A IC wouldn't hurt. Double stock HP on the 1.6L is as far as I want to go.

The kit comes with the high flow fuel rail and that helps immensely with even fuel distribution. We are running Dan's with the stock FPR but an external adjustable FPR would not be a bad idea if you go beyond 80WHP added.

What I found remarkable is that the 105/65 pulley combination on the 1.8L adds roughly 80 WHP too. As the MP62 is a positive displacement blower and the goal is to burn air and the pulley combination is the same, it just stands to reason that it is pumping the same amount of air, roughly, in both cases. The 1.6L also makes the same boost, roughly 10.5 PSI. That does seem a bit strange as I would expect a bit les flow and a bit more back pressure (boost) from the smaller engine. The 1.6L is an impressive engine. That 170WHP was on 91 octane last JULY in Arizona. We were pulling about 5* if I recall and that means about 12-15 more WHP could have been had with better fuel.

I also know that Dan has been on my case since the day AFTER we got it running for a bigger pulley.

So, what's the base price for a base system and what else will I need to buy for a working system?
