  • Hotside Tensioner Bracket

I have the Plates but not the standoffs. The plates are free for the asking. Simply send an email to [email protected] with your name and address and email. I have about 20 of them. First come, first served. When they are gone, they are gone. The tensioner used is Gates/Goodyear part number 38178. It should be available at all NAPA stores and probably most other automobile parts stores.

The hex spacers are ¾” hex and need to be cut to length to make the tensioner line up with your SC pulley. The blower assembly needs to be moved forward enough (about 1”) to align the SC pulley with the six rib crank pulley.

The EASM can be viewed with this viewer. It is free from SolidWorks under free CAD tools. http://www.solidworks.com/sw/support/downloads.htm

Hi Tom, I've dropped in from the thread over on Miata.net as I'm very much interested in your free 6rib conversion goodies. I thank you very much if you'd be so kind as to add me to your list. I will send you an email as well.

My apologies. I forgot that you have to register to post. You do not need to post here. Just send me an email. We had to take measures to stop scams and porn and all kinds of things. That is why I made it slightly difficult to register.

Register if you please. Join us in posting, we welcome you BUT, you do not need to register to get the parts, just drop me your name and address.

        About 16 left.

OK. Latest updates. Those who already asked and I already shipped, don't worry, these parts were added to your package as well.

First is the PS Adjuster block. It is a small block with two 8mmx1.25 drilled and tapped holes. We found that the tensioner had a very close relationship, so to speak, with the Power Steering Adjuster. To cure this we made a special block to get just a bit more clearance. In this case, a miss is as good as a mile.

The second additional piece is the under brace. Here I have to apologize. My memory is not great on this part. Remember, we only made two FFS Hotsides and replaced one of those. Thises two parts were not part of the original BRP Hotside tensioner kit we tried to sell. Part of my memory says it replaced the adjuster bar for the PS pump. I vaguely remember that was given double duty. If it is not used or useable on your kit feel free to toss it. At least my garage has fewer parts that I don't remember how they were used. LOL Please do not ask for a refund or return postage. First off we give no refunds on free parts and secondly, well, I am trying to make space for the new kit for non Miata consumtion.

If you have questions, post them here. These are not "KITS" but simply key parts. You will have to do a bit of contemplation and trips to the store. On the other hand, I don't care who tells you that a four rib system with manual tensior is great, it's not. First off, the belt was designed to drive the power steering (couple HP) and the AC (another 3-4) and now you want to add another 15-25 HP to it. Second, the HP load varies with RPM and boost. That means it will stretch some as the load/RPM increases. To make it work, you must make it as tight as a bow string at idle in order for it to be tight enough at full RPM/Load. Thirdly, it only has four ribs to try to creat enough friction to not slip. Next time you lift your hood, look for rubber under the hood above the supercharger and on the nose of the SC. Last, how many miles are you getting out of a belt. They should, if properly used, go 50,000 miles. A good 6 rib auto tensioner belt system will go even longer than that.

When opening an EASM file, click on the arrow shown in the attached picture and it will give you a parts list for all of the parts in the drawing. Sorry I forgot to tell you that before.

              Hi Tom,

My hotside is circa end-of-BRP and was an original 6-rib, but with the manual tensioner. I bought an auto tensioner from you right after that, which was, what - 6-7 years ago? I forget.

Anyway, should I be interested in any of this stuff? Are there any improvements to these designs since then?

              Thanks,

Yours should be basically the same. However, take a look at the clearance between the tensioner and the adjusting "nut" on the adjuster for the PS pump. I would assume (hate that word) that there is plenty of clearance. If not, let me know and I will gladly send you one of those nuts.

For those of you who cannot move the whole SC 1" forward, we also have this 1/4" spacer. It will move the pulley 1/4" forward so the supercharger only has to move 3/4". If there is enough unused threads on the end of the shaft, you could use two spacers.

I picked up two of them from the shop and will try to post them today. As you space the SC forward, you may tend to run out of threads for the nut. If so, you may need to counter bore the front side of the pulley to allow the nut to recess.
